GLENDO STATE PARK- Stop #1 by Wendy Woodland
We made it to our first stop at Glendo State Park on 6/14. It was pretty uneventful (thankfully) although we did miss an exit and it wasn’t easy to get back on our path. The lake was HUGE and there were a ton of people camping there. It was kind of a party crowd and at one sunset viewing- we watched them all- there was a party going on with drinking games, shots and lots of drunk party shenanigans going on! They didn’t seem to mind my children just staring at them. They couldn’t stop watching and pointing out all that was going on. There was a LOT going on!
We had some pretty intense thunderstorms, but the paddle boarding and biking was phenomenal! The first day or two felt like a high- the honeymoon phase for everyone. We got up early to paddle board, stayed up late, rode bikes, ate s’mores and lots of our favorite camp meals. After a day or two, everyone’s feelings seemed a little mixed, as it seemed like “the honeymoon was over!” and boy, that was a short honeymoon.
I am definitely getting a lot more movement, lifting, and even running (shout out to my running buddies Jill and Valerie). Okay, so I only ran two mornings, but still…I had to start somewhere. We are trying to give each other as much space as possible. Nick pointed out that we need to focus on thinking about the whole rather than just about ourselves when we are making decisions. This has been a challenge for some…we will keep working on it.
