UPDATE 2/28/2025: The book is still in-progress. I think I have read it a dozen times through already. Apparently, editing a book is hard. I wish someone had told me this. Anyway, off to read it for a 13th time. I once read that Walter Mosley, an American crime novelist with a ridiculous number of books to his name, reads every book he writes over twenty times in order to get it just “write.”
Together, We Left: One Family’s Year-long Adventure Across America is my book about a year-long RV trip my family and I undertook from June 2023 to June 2024. It is a travel book about our love of adventure, our bond as a family, and the desire to get the most out of life. It’s a book about seizing the day and slowing down to appreciate everything around you. It’s about spending time with the most important people in your life. Finally, it’s imbued with my love of the outdoors and my thoughts on why I think it is so good for us.
For more about the trip, read this blog. It includes the first thirty pages of my book (which has since changed), and excerpt like this.
The book is currently in its final editorial phases, meaning it is still just a dream. The long road to hopeful publication begins soon. If you have any advice for me on the process, or would like to read the manuscript as a “beta” reader, please let me know.
Here is a mock-up of a potential book cover.
